About a month ago I decided to start learning the guitar, and here’s where I am so far.
I screwed up the beginning “lamp post” and “the most”, but the second verse onward I think was better. This is one of my favorite songs, and it’s actually pretty easy to play. The hard part is singing at a different beat than the strumming.
On a side note, somebody tell me in the comments if I really sound this bad, or is it just the microphone? When I listen to myself play, I feel that it sounds warm and full, but in the video it just sounds so tinny.

A month only?
You’re going very well
I have been studying guitar for years now on and off. I was very happy when I managed to play a song I learned when I was a kid ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6DG9BWN1CU ).
And I also feel that my voice sounds different when I record it. That’s normal. I think I should get a better mic, I recorded the video with a cheap camera.
That’s great for only a month!
How did you go about learning?
First, I watched this video to get all pumped up:

Then, I bought a $50 guitar from Amazon.com, one with nylon strings since steel strings will cut through your fingers like a knife through butter when you’re a beginner. It makes all the difference in the world.

Finally, I looked up some tabs and started playing. I like this site since if you hover over a chord it shows you how to play it. Then, just practice. Avoid songs with barre chords =P
