One of the most popular arguments against gay marriage is that if we legalize gay marriage it’s a slippery slope to legalizing polygamy and beastiality. My response is: so what? People who are in favor of gay marriage are far too quick to dismiss these other forms of non-traditional marriage.
Can anybody think of a single reason why polygamy or beastiality is bad other than “it’s unnatural”, “it’s disgusting”, or “I hate it”?
Remember, we should never be legislating taste and if somebody wants to have sex with his cow who are we to judge? If somebody is in love with two women, or three, or four, or five, who are we to judge them and say they can’t get married?
There’s an argument that it’s dangerous: diseases can be transmitted between humans and animals, and polygamous relationships might lead to bad parenting. If disease is a problem practice safe sex, and polygamous marriages don’t lead to any worse parenting than “traditional” relationships.
Let’s also remember that the law will neither stop nor encourage this behavior. Somebody crazy enough to have sex with a cow is going to have sex with a cow regardless of whether it’s legal. Somebody in love with two women is going to sleep with both of them regardless of what the law says.
So, I ask you: if we’re going to legalize gay marriage, why not legalize other non-traditional forms of marriage along the way?

what is the difference between bestiality and pedophilia?
neither can verbally consent, but most people dont verbally consent. an animal could sortof show consent by doing something like rubbing against the human or not backing away. but a child could be seen as sexually teasing an adult or not backing away when theyre being molested. that does not mean the child is consenting.
perhaps the difference is development? an animal would most likely be fully developed at the time of “the act”. but a human child is still just a child.
an adult animal does have sexual urges, a child does not.
but neither could understand whats happening as well as the adult human.
this is an honest question.
Actually, that is a good question. From my perspective, the difference is that we don’t slaughter and eat human children.
In other words, my argument is that since we slaughter and eat animals and that’s clearly worse than shagging them, it’s pretty hypocritical of us to say that bestiality is wrong.
However, that argument clearly doesn’t apply to pedophilia.
But, there is another question: what exactly is wrong with pedophilia? What’s wrong is that you can’t force yourself on people, obviously (regardless of how young or old they are). However, I do not believe that child molestation is “the most heinous crime imaginable” that people seem to think it is.
We expect that children who are molested will be emotionally traumatized, scarred for life, require therapy, etc., but why? What exactly is traumatic about being molested OTHER than society telling the kid that he should be traumatized? For example, given the choice, I would much rather have some strange man touch my private parts than have the crap beaten out of me and my legs broken. Why? Isn’t it obvious? If I’m molested I can just shake it off, but if my legs are broken I may never walk again.
Anyway, I think molested children would be better off if we told them something simple like, “Yes, Timmy, what that man did was wrong, but he’s in jail now so there’s nothing to worry about. Now, let’s go get you an ice cream cone and you can have a wonderful life!” Instead, we make a big deal out of it: we pity the kids, throw them into therapy, tell them they should feel bad and in pain for the rest of their life, tell them that they will never recover, tell them that they went through the most horrible ordeal of their life, etc. That doesn’t seem like what we should be telling them… I mean, little Timmy probably doesn’t even know what happened. If it wasn’t for adults telling him how horrible it was, he wouldn’t know.
Anyway, obviously child molestation should be and is a crime, it just seems to me that child assault, for example, is much worse.
This is funny, yet thought provoking. Having sex with children or animals does fall under the realm of sex without consent since neither the child nor the animal actually knows that the person is indulging in sex with them for pleasure. At the same time, due to media, the number of children getting educated in sex as well as experimenting at an early age is increasing rapidly. I personally know psychiatrists who counsel young children addicted to pornography and masturbation. So there is a high probability that children may indeed be consenting sexual act with adults. Now talking about polygamy and incest, well, they are acts between consenting adults so there need not be any law forbidding such acts. With latest contraceptive methods, people need not fear procreating retarded children in the case of incest and as the author told, it is no one’s business if a man sleeps with multiple women if they all consent for the same. There is one other thing. When people present this issue, people say “Oh this is so offensive because you are comparing gay marriage with incest or polygamy”. That is wrong since no one is comparing one with the other. Gay sex, polygamy, incest and bestiality were all taboo for a long time even though people practiced them in private. Now that gay sex has been approved, other things should also follow because that is the way they prefer to live their lives and everybody has a right to live their lives the way they want.
